Each semester, teams of students in the Junior Block class
select, plan, execute, document, and present
projects that serve an organization in Evansville.
Select an Organization
- Each team member will complete and submit an Organization Overview for a charity or not-for-profit organization.
- Team members will "pitch" their ideas to the Community Service groups
- The team will Identify 2 or 3 charities or not-for-profit organizations that the team wishes to help.
- Assign team members to research each organization determine what is needed and how the team can help.
- Research the charity or organization to determine what needs may exist
- Make initial contact with organization to determine if a need exists
- With the help of the organization, come up with a viable project idea
- Once the selection has been made, a team member submits the Organization Overview for that organization for instructor approval.

Organize Team Leadership
- Select students to serve as a Project Manager and Assistant Project Manager for the task.
- Project Manager
- serves as the primary contact for the organization and Academy instructors
- delegates coordinator roles
- oversees and manages execution and completion of the task
- provides leadership for the group
- uploads, completes, and submits Team Leadership Structure document for instructor approval.

- works with the Project Manager in the overseeing and management of the task.
- works with Academy instructors to obtain necessary paperwork (releases, permission slips, donation forms)

Plan the Project
- Team visits organization to better understand its function and needs and meet with the organization contact person.
- During the visit and meeting with contact person, the Project Manager leads the discuss to
- Identify a need of the organization
- Brainstorm and discuss possible projects that would meet the need
- Schedule the next meeting to present the group's Project Proposal
- Photographer/Videographer takes pictures to document the meeting
- Recording Secretary uploads, and begins entering events on Project Chronology.

- Following the visit, convene as a team to select and design the project and submit the Project Proposal.

Carry Out the Project
- Project Manager leads the team in the execution of the project following the Project Plan and Timeline.
- Recording Secretary enters all meetings and activities in Project Chronology.
- Photographer/Videographer documents meetings and activities as often as possible or delegates the task to a team member.
Project Presentation
- The Service Project Final Report is a formal write-up of your project presented in a binder. The Final Report is compiled by the Recording Secretary with the help of the group members. Each group member is responsible for giving his or her Individual Reflection to the Recording Secretary for inclusion in the Final Report.
Final Report will include:
- Title Page
- Title of project
- Organization served
- Team members' names and titles
- Shepard Academy
- Date
- Title of project
- Table of Contents
- Introduction
Using your Select an Organization document as a guide, tell about your organization. Next, refer to the Project Proposal to explain the project, what it was intended to accomplish, and how the team accomplished its goals.
- Project implementation
in planning that you had to resolve. Discuss what you did to prepare for your project, such as getting donations of material
and equipment, preparing posters and handouts, organizing team members.
Also, discuss how the team accomplished the project. Was the project completed according to the original plans, or did the
plans have to be revised or changed?
(Minimum 250 words)
- Individual Reflections
summarizes his or her role in the project, from selecting and "pitching" an organization, through the choice, development,
execution of the project, and, finally, the completion of the final report and presentation. The individual reflection also
addresses how the project affected you and the people you worked with. What did you learn from doing the project? How
has the project helped you, the organization and the people it serves?
(Minimum 250 words)
- Appendix
included in the appendix are selected captioned photographs which tell the story of the project from initial contact meeting
through completion.
- The Service Project Oral Presentation is 6-8 minute oral presentation accompanied by a slide show.
